Sean Shanks
PRESIDENT
Sean joined MoneyWise Payroll as an Account Executive in 2000 and quickly found a niche in customer service and database administration. His previous experiences in customer service within a variety of industries made him the perfect candidate for the role of Operations Manager, which he was promoted to in 2002. In this role, he worked closely with Frank Birckhead, the founder of MoneyWise to transform the customer experience, thus guiding MoneyWise to a new level. Following the passing of Frank in 2015, Sean purchased MoneyWise and became the President of the organization.
“I was drawn to the customer service industry because of how rewarding it is to help people achieve their goals. I hope to continue growing MoneyWise one client at a time”, says Sean.
Sean and his wife Jennifer have three children, and they enjoy raising their family in the beauty of the Virginia Piedmont. When he is out of the office, you can find Sean training for fall Cyclocross bike racing in the area.

Kayla Arvidson
SENIOR PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Kayla joined MoneyWise Payroll as a Senior Payroll Specialist in 2018 after relocating from Richmond to Charlottesville, VA. With a varied customer service background and having served six years in the Virginia Army National Guard as a Human Resources Specialist, she is always up for a challenge and ready to provide clients with an exceptional customer service experience.
After moving to the area in 2017, “I instantly fell in love with the small-town feel and mix of urban and rural amenities that Charlottesville has to offer. MoneyWise Payroll’s diverse client base was a great way to learn the area after I moved.”
When she is out of the office, you can find Kayla participating in a local 5k or hiking the area’s trails with her husband Matt, and their two dogs, Luna and Snickers.

Bobbie Jo Shackelford
OPERATIONS MANAGER
Bobbie Jo joined MoneyWise Payroll as a Data Entry Associate in 2013 after moving from Pittsburgh to Charlottesville, VA. With over 20 years of experience in customer service she quickly moved into her current role as the Operations Manager. Bobbie Jo enjoys building relationships with clients and identifying their needs in order to provide a truly VIP customer experience.
As a visionary of the bigger picture, Bobbie Jo is always looking for ways to help others and improve MoneyWise Payroll as a whole. “While my nickname at the office is ‘Queen B’, I take pride in helping the members of our team become better leaders.” Our team here at MoneyWise is what makes us great, says Bobbie Jo.
When she is out of the office, you can find her watching football. Go Steelers! As a single mother of two children, she spends the majority of her free time with her pride and joy, her son Malique, and daughter, Daisha.
